I think as parents we need to be grateful for small victories, little moments when we see a glimpse of the fact that our children are growning into the people we want them to be. Sometimes these are serious heartwarming experiences and sometimes they are not. More often than not they come out of nowhere.
I just had a small victory.
So that you understand this victory, you must understand that I allow my children a certain amount of freedom with what they watch on TV. I don't always like what they pick, but because they are not necessarily offensive, I choose to pick my battles. That being said, Cricket loves Toddlers and Tiaras. For a long time she would always tell me she wanted to be on this show, which I was not really thrilled about.
She has not be quite as into it as of the last year or so. Cake Boss has taken its place as her number one.
However, she stayed home sick today and was watching Toddlers and Tiaras. I was working on the computer and stopped to watch for a minute. The lady on the show was practicing with her two year old in their basement or something and it was pretty ghetto. I said, "Where do they live? In a warehouse or something?"
Cricket said, "I know. They always live in port-a-potties and then spend ten thousand dollars on a dress!"
Ah, small victories.
